Forthcoming: Horim fâr: Gawarbati folktales

Anastasia Panova is a PhD student in general linguistics at Stockholm University. The goal of her PhD project is to describe the morphosyntax of Gawarbati based on spoken corpus data. Her previous research focused on complex morphology, phasal meanings, Northwest Caucasian languages and the languages of the Russian Far East.

Henrik Liljegren is a professor in general linguistics at Stockholm University, specializing in language documentation and description. His main interests are areal typology, language contact and the languages of the Hindu Kush region. Many of those languages are lesser-described, endangered and under-resourced. He has carried out fieldwork in individual languages of the region as well as conducted areal-typological research by means of collaborative methods. He was the project leader of a Gawarbati documentation project of which the present collection was a part. Apart from research per se, he has been engaged in language maintenance efforts, orthography design and in advising and coaching local communities in language documentation. He is one of the co-founders of the Forum for Language Initiatives (FLI), a resource and educational centre for language communities in Pakistan’s mountainous North. 

Robert Tegethoff defended a PhD in Indo-European linguistics in 2026 at Friedrich Schiller Universität Jena and is currently a researcher at Freie Universität Berlin. He focuses on the historical phonology and etymology of the Indo-Aryan languages of the Hindu Kush, along with forays into language documentation and description.

Nasirullah Nasir is a Gawar teacher, writer and language activist hailing from Arandu. His primary role within the aforementioned documentation project was to collect and process language data in his home community, including the recruitment of interviewees, arranging recording sessions, handling meta data, and providing Urdu translations of transcribed material. 

Abdullah Soan is a Gawar police officer, writer and language activist from Arandu. His primary role within the documentation project was to process language data, including the IPA transcription and the provision of Gawarbati orthographic representation of recorded texts as well as the editing of Urdu translations.
