Forthcoming: A grammar of Moro

Peter Jenks, Elyasir Julima, Angelo Nasir, Sharon Rose

Synopsis

This book offers a comprehensive grammatical description of the Thetogovela variety of Moro, a Kordofanian language spoken in the Nuba Mountains in the Republic of Sudan. All aspects of Moro grammar are covered in depth, including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics.   This book is based on many years of collaborative work between the authors in the US and Sudan beginning in 2005. It includes a lexicon of over 1300 entries and six fully glossed texts. The grammar includes examples from extensive elicitation-based fieldwork, as well as naturally occurring examples from oral texts transcribed in the book, and examples from written Moro in the Moro Story Corpus.  All example sentences are provided in the official Moro orthography as well as IPA.
