Forthcoming: Language acquisition: The development of domain-specific cognition

Luca Cilibrasi

Synopsis

Drawing on research from cognitive neuroscience and language acquisition, this book explores the idea that language-related brain regions may not be biologically pre-specified, but rather emerge through early exposure and experience. In doing so, it builds a parallel with the neural basis of reading — a domain in which domain-specificity appears to arise through learning. The result is a thought-provoking contribution to ongoing debates about the biological foundations of language.
